Site Assessment
The Site Assessment process begins with the careful selection and assessment of a site:
We observe patterns of use and circulation of the land and study topography, soil structures, and influences on microclimate. The angles of the sun and the duration of solar exposure, the direction and intensity of wind, and the frequency and amount of precipitation are all studied. We seek to preserve the natural site topography, avoid clear cutting and site leveling, and to retain desirable features such as established trees and rock formations. Negative impacts by installing underground utilities, paved areas, and porous paving materials are minimized. Natural drainage patterns of the site are respected, maintained, and enhanced to encourage water retention and reuse. Raingardens and other integrated site planning techniques to impede water runoff and create low-maintenance landscape are used when appropriate.
